Since 1993, FforMan has established itself as a management consultancy focusing on both the human resource and the effective management of employment relations in the workplace.

We have been instrumental in the development and implementation of many Human Resource Management and Safety, Health, Environmental & Quality related policies, procedures & training initiatives. In addition, we guide employers through their Legal, Personnel Management and Industrial Relations obligations. With over 25 years experience we are familiar with the problems and therefore the needs that companies have today.

We believe that what is now required is a “back to basics” approach that focuses on re-establishing management commitment and consistency in the application of certain key elements. Given the constraints of cost and a potential absence of expertise already employed, attention should be prioritised on the ‘day to day’ management of people: their attendance, time keeping, general conduct, work safety, environmental awareness, job suitability, effective work performance & quality, personal development and overall upliftment needs.

We have learned that for enhanced business efficiency one has to focus on people, ensuring the correct procedures and motivators are in place and prior to any business process changes and improvements being actioned.

Our approach is practical, hands-on, pragmatic and backed by academic and theoretical knowledge to ensure that ‘the job gets done’.

Mat Fforde of FforMan has over 26 years of labour law experience. He is an experienced chairperson handling matters ranging from Incapacity, Poor Work Performance, Grievances, Disciplinary Hearings (ranging from single employees to mass groups), Private Mediations and  Arbitrations as well as representing clients at the CCMA. The proven ability to deliver rulings in this regard that will ‘stand up in Court’ can only be acquired via the solid experience of a hearing chairperson like Mat Fforde.

  • An external person will be less susceptible to influence from the parties than would an internal chairperson;
  • An expert in labour law will have the experience and skill to run the hearing in a procedurally appropriate manner, cognisant also of the complex requirements of the laws of evidence;
  • Such an expert would be able to arrive at a fair and balanced decision without breaching the myriad complex principles that the CCMA expects to be applied.
